FAQs Pool Paint
What type of pool paint should I use?
The right pool paint depends on your surface and what’s already on it. We offer epoxy and chlorinated rubber pool paint options to suit concrete, fibreglass, marblesheen, and previously painted pools. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll guide you to the best product for your situation.
Can I apply the paint myself or do I need a professional?
Many of our customers choose the DIY route! Our pool paints are designed for easy application, and we provide simple instructions to help you get great results. For complex or large-scale jobs, you may prefer to use a professional painter.
Do I need to remove the old paint before applying a new coat?
Not always. If the existing paint is in good condition and you’re using the same type (e.g., rubber over rubber or epoxy over epoxy), a clean and sanded surface is often enough. However, switching paint types may require complete removal of the old coating for proper adhesion.
How long do I have to wait before filling the pool?
Drying times vary based on the product and weather conditions. As a general guide:
- Epoxy paint: Wait 7 days before filling.
- Chlorinated rubber: Allow 7–10 days.

How much paint will I need?
Coverage depends on the surface and the type of paint used. On average:
- Epoxy and rubber paints: 1 litre covers approx. 8–10m² per coat.
- You’ll need at least two coats for most pool surfaces. Using your pool dimensions – check out our Paint Calculator to estimate your pool paint needs.
Can your paint be used on fibreglass pools?
Yes, but only certain products are suitable. Our epoxy pool paints are best for fibreglass surfaces. Be sure to check the compatibility, or reach out to us for personalised advice.
How long will the paint finish last?
With correct preparation and application, you can expect:
- Epoxy coatings to last 7–10 years
- Chlorinated rubber paint to last 2–4 years
- Regular maintenance and water balance help extend the lifespan.
Can unused paint be returned?
Due to dangerous goods transport and storage regulations Adelaide Pool Paint is unable to accept return stock of used or unused paints and materials.
Do you offer support or advice after purchase?
Absolutely. We’re here to help before, during and after your purchase. If you have any questions while applying the paint or caring for your pool afterwards, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
